The House of Representatives’ Labour Party (LP) Caucus has vehemently denounced the demolition of a home connected to Peter Obi’s family, the party’s presidential contender for 2023. Agents said to be working for the Lagos State Government are accused of bringing down the property.

The lawmakers called the act “deeply disturbing” and a danger to democratic ideals in a statement issued in Awka, Anambra State, and signed by Hon. Victor Afam Ogene, the leader of the LP Caucus. The group pointed out that the demolition was purportedly carried out in accordance with a court order that was obtained under dubious circumstances; the order was not issued in anyone’s name or shared with the impacted property owners.

The caucus said, “This act sends a worrying message.” “Other Nigerians are much more vulnerable if a well-known person like Mr. Obi can be treated in this manner.”

The caucus also connected the demolition to Peter Obi’s recent worries about targeted attacks on him and his companies after he took a risky stand as an opposition leader. Political rivalry should never result in psychological, financial, or personal harm, Ogene underlined.

“Vennettas and resentment shouldn’t be fostered by politics. Ogene said, “It should be about progress and service, not oppression.”

He urged that Peter Obi’s and his family’s investments be safeguarded like those of any law-abiding Nigerian, highlighting his legacy of honesty, patriotism, and compassion for the underprivileged.

Peter Obi responded to the incident by warning that unbridled anarchy damages Nigeria’s ability to attract foreign investment. Obi asserted that a country where lawlessness triumphs over the rule of law is not likely to be a refuge for investors. He went on to say that the state’s inability to safeguard its citizens is further demonstrated by the persistent violations of human rights.

“If this level of lawlessness can happen to someone with a legitimate business and identity, what hope do ordinary Nigerians have?” Obi asked as he ended, highlighting the predicament of regular Nigerians.
