The circumstances surrounding the shooting death of Emmanuella Ahenjir, a young woman, in Makurdi are being investigated by the Benue State Police Command.
According to a statement from CSP Anene Sewuese Catherine, Police Public Relations Officer, Benue State Police Command, the incident happened early on Friday, May 16, 2025.
She claims that at around 4:00 in the morning, a patrol team based at Duku Park in Wurukum sent out a radio message informing them of a suspicious contact.
She stated, “A police team stationed at Duku Park, Wurukum, received a radio message at approximately 4:00 a.m. on May 16, 2025, stating that they had stopped a car approaching from the Benue Links area, but the driver had turned around, driven through the opposite lane, and was shooting intermittently at them.” The driver fled after the cops fired a shot in response.
The police continued to pursue the car until around ten in the morning, when they learned that Emmanuella Ahenjir, a woman who was a student at Federal University in Wukari, Taraba State, had been shot and killed at Benue State University Teaching Hospital.
The body was placed in the hospital morgue for autopsy after the detectives were informed about the deceased upon their arrival at the hospital.

“Apase Keghter, another passenger in the car, was spotted in the hospital and asked to be questioned.
According to Mr. Apase, they had gone to the Newcastle Event Centre for club activities and were returning when they drove in the wrong lane and past the checkpoint without stopping. However, they did not shoot.
Despite being shot by the police, they and the victim drove to the Welfare Quarters. When they saw a flat tire, they pulled over and contacted a commercial truck to transport them to the hospital.
“At this time, his possessions, the exhibit automobile, and the other people within the aforementioned vehicle are not present.
“CP Emenari Ifeanyi has directed that the case be thoroughly investigated. He promises the departed’s friends and family that he will find the truth and make sure the law is upheld.
