After a female member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) died on Tuesday, Abass Olalekan, the Local Government Inspector (LGI) for the Abeokuta South Local Government Area, was taken into custody.
According to reports, Victoria Ariyo, a corps member working for the local government, passed away due to pregnancy difficulties.
It was discovered that she had ended her pregnancy and passed away as a result of complications.
A source claims that after verbally announcing her death, Olalekan organized a few corps members to arrange her funeral. Her remains are purportedly interred at Kobape Cemetery on Kobape-Sagamu Road in Abeokuta.
According to sources, the deceased and the LGI had a romantic relationship that resulted in pregnancy and an abortion that killed her.
According to reports, Ariyo’s death occurred just one month after Adeleye Mary, a female corps member and her friend, passed away under strange circumstances.
Mary was assigned to Ogun State Television (OGTV) as her Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) while working under the same Abeokuta South LG.
Olalekan’s detention was confirmed by a police source who stated, “He is in our custody at the command’s headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta.”
In the meantime, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the Police Public Relations Officer, declined to answer inquiries regarding the LGI’s arrest and the purported involvement.
However, Babaseyi acknowledged that the inquiry into Victoria Ariyo’s death was still in progress.
In a brief statement, Babaseyi stated, “I can confirm that the State Criminal Investigation Department is investigating the case of Victoria Ariyo’s demise.”
