Maduka Okoye, the goalkeeper for Udinese and Super Eagles, has been suspended for two months by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC).
Maduka Okoye’s ban follows a disciplinary decision connected to a contentious betting-related incident that occurred during the 2023–2024 Serie A season.
After allegedly prompting a yellow card during a match against Lazio, Okoye, 24, was found guilty of sporting misconduct. Investigators suspect that unusual betting activity at that specific point in the game had an impact on the move.
Okoye “intentionally committed an act” to manipulate the outcome of bets placed on the match, according to the FIGC’s investigation, which was prompted by irregular betting patterns.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the National Federal Tribunal’s Disciplinary Section of the Federation affirmed the suspension.
The decision said, “The National Federal Tribunal, Disciplinary Section, definitively ruling, imposes on Mr. Emil Maduka Okoye the sanction of two (2) months of disqualification in official matches, starting from the beginning of the first official competition of the 2025/2026 sporting season.”

Okoye will miss five more Serie A games until his suspension starts on August 18, when Udinese plays Carrarese in the Coppa Italia, the team’s first competitive encounter of the new season. By October 19, when Udinese travels to play Cremonese, he should be eligible again.
Take note that since the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, Maduka Okoye, who was formerly Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper, has had difficulty staying consistent. This most recent development may make his future with Udinese and the Nigerian national team even more uncertain, since his form has been inconsistent.
As of this writing, Okoye had not responded to the ban with a public statement.
