Oba Rashidi Ladoja, the Olubadan-designate, has attributed the ongoing rivalry amongst Yoruba kings to their supporters.
He claimed that supporters frequently start contentious historical tales in order to sow division.
Speaking to Oba Francis Alao, the Olugbon of Orile-Igbon, and his wife during their courtesy call on Thursday, he rejected the idea of a power struggle between Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, and Oba Akeem Owoade, the Alaafin of Oyo.
“I have consistently argued that discord is neither caused by the Ooni or the Alaafin. Their proponents wind up causing needless strife in their attempts to defend disparate historical narratives. Oba Ladoja remarked, “They forget that history can be subjective.”

He exhorted the Yoruba people to set aside contentious historical discussions and concentrate on harmony, peace, and group advancement instead.
Just as the Ooni cannot leave Ile-Ife to rule Oyo, the Alaafin cannot leave Oyo to control Ile-Ife. “Every king has his territory,” he continued.
The Olubadan-designate used a global analogy to compare the situation to Britain’s colonial relationship with America.
The history they cite is from the past and is comparable to Britain colonizing America. He claimed that Britain now gets a cold if America sneezes.
Oba Ladoja said, “Many Yoruba monarchs might have ended up with titles like ‘Emir’ if it weren’t for Ibadan’s role in history.” Instead of only conserving history, we should now focus on modernizing Ibadanland and advancing the Ibadan Empire’s legacy.
