The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member Honourable Agboola Ajayi is about to leave the party and join the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the election on November 16th approaches.

This follows Ajayi’s decision to drop his lawsuit against the results of the most recent election that he had filed at the Supreme Court.

His family, friends, party members, and legal counsel were all consulted extensively before the decision to drop his appeal at the highest court, he added.

The decision was motivated by his dedication to peace and good government, the former deputy governor wrote in a letter to the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court.

We have decided after much discussion that the appeal should be dropped, and I therefore do so,” Ajayi stated. My main goal, as a former deputy governor and lawmaker, is to promote peaceful coexistence and good government in Ondo State and Nigeria.

In response, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa said that Ajayi had previously expressed his willingness to join the APC in order to back President Bola Tinubu’s campaign for reelection.

Actually, I have heard directly from Hon. Agboola Ajayi that he plans to join the APC. I am awaiting his arrival so that we may collaborate to create a more expansive Ondo State,” Aiyedatiwa stated on Channels Television.

The governor added that the Supreme Court’s decision to reject all opposition petitions challenging his victory was “a final seal on the mandate freely given to me by the people of Ondo State.”

The closest opponent of Aiyedatiwa in the 2024 gubernatorial election was Ajayi, who ran alongside 14 other candidates and received 117,845 votes against the APC candidate’s 366,781.

The Supreme Court ended months of post-election litigation on Tuesday when it unanimously rejected petitions from the PDP, Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Allied People’s Movement (APM).

Political analysts point out that if Ajayi’s planned defection is confirmed, it could drastically alter the political climate in Ondo State in advance of upcoming elections.
