A woman was kidnapped and her husband was shot on Wednesday night in the Pelebe axis of Akure South Local Government Area, Ondo State, by gunmen suspected of being kidnappers.
The community’s Ogunti Camp area was the site of the attack, which has left the locals in a panic.
The state has been dealing with constant security issues in recent weeks, with armed individuals kidnapping and killing people every day.
Additionally, the development sparked a number of community rallies in which locals and young people chastised the government for failing to uphold its duty to protect people and property.
Sources said that the fully armed gunmen broke into the neighborhood and fired intermittently into the air, forcing the locals to flee.
The couple was outside their home when the gunmen arrived, according to one of the sources, and the armed men shot the tomato farmer husband, Daniel Adesida, after he tried to stop them from kidnapping his wife.
Following the shooting, his wife was taken away by the shooters, leaving the farmer in a pool of his own blood.
Jimoh Abayomi, the police public relations officer, confirmed the occurrence and revealed that Adesida had been saved and transported to the police clinic for medical care. He also mentioned that the area had been secured.
In order to capture the escaping suspects, the Commissioner of Police has ordered increased patrols, bush-combing operations, and intelligence collection in the impacted area and surrounding villages.
