A car rammed into a crowded Christmas market in Magdeburg, Germany, on Friday, leaving one person dead and nearly 70 others injured in what authorities suspect to be a terror attack.
According to the UK Telegraph, the attack occurred at 7.04 pm local time in Magdeburg, the provincial capital of Saxony-Anhalt, located west of Berlin, with a population of about 240,000.

Eyewitnesses recounted how the vehicle smashed through barriers designed to protect the market, driving directly into unsuspecting shoppers.
Video footage from a nearby camera reportedly captured the car speeding through a narrow alleyway lined with stalls, mowing down pedestrians in its path.

According to Germany’s DPA news agency, the driver of the dark-coloured BMW has been arrested, while police have cordoned off the city centre, searching for potential explosives linked to the incident.
The Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, expressed his shock, stating, “My thoughts are with the victims and their loved ones.”

Authorities have maintained a strong security presence around the suspect’s car, which remains at the scene. German public broadcaster MDR reported that an explosive device might be inside the vehicle.
Reacting to the development on X, Tesla owner Elon Musk called for the resignation of Chancellor Scholz.
He tweeted, “Scholz should resign immediately. Incompetent fool.”
