Abia Northern Senator Orji Uzor-Kalu has advocated for a political resolution to the legal dispute between the Federal Government and Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
The call was made by Uzor-Kalu during an interview on Sunday Politics, a Channels Television program.
His remarks are made in light of Kanu’s recent conviction on terrorism-related charges by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The congressman claims to have been interacting with the federal government regarding the IPOB leader’s situation.

“We must use a political method to resolve the Nnamdi Kanu issue. I have been working with the Federal Government of Nigeria to find a solution to this problem, and no one should contest Justice Omotosho’s ruling,” he continued.
He stated that he would speak with Attorney General Lateef Fagbemi to advise the President on the issue at hand, while Kanu’s legal team will go to the Appeal Court to contest the Federal High Court decision.
The former governor of Abia state bemoaned the fact that IPOB’s actions in the South-East caused many people to lose their employment and means of subsistence, emphasizing that the group’s actions have murdered hundreds of Igbo in the area.

The senator clarified that he had exerted pressure on Muhammadu Buhari, the president at the time, to enable Kanu’s release in April 2017.
He recognized the contributions of Mamman Daura and Abubakar Malami, the Federation’s attorney general at the time, in getting Kanu released from custody so he could stand trial.
“I am aware of the pressure I applied to President Buhari prior to his release in April 2017. The Igbo who were slaughtered are not being discussed,” he continued.
