Senator Orji Kalu, who represents Abia North in the National Assembly and chairs the Senate Committee on Privatization, has declared that his presidential ambition will be postponed till President Bola Tinubu completes his second term.
Kalu stated that despite his desire to run for president, he cannot compete with the party, which has already approved President Bola Tinubu for a second term that ends in 2031.
Speaking to reporters in Igbere, Bende Local Government Area, Abia State, on Tuesday, the legislator stated that his presidential ambition is on hold and will be rekindled after Tinubu’s second term is completed.
“I am an APC member, and our party has comfortably endorsed President Tinubu,” he stated. So, even if I have Presidential ambitions, they are on hold for the time being since I am unable to oppose the party. The party holds absolute power. President Tinubu enjoys party supremacy and will be elected President. Who says I can’t run for President after President Tinubu in 2031? It is possible.
The lawmaker further stated that if the people deemed him worthy of re-election in 2027, he will run for the Abia North senatorial district seat again.
He stated, “In 2027, I will seek re-election to the Senate. If our people believe I am worthy, I will run. In six years as a senator, he built over 187 highways, while I built over 123 primary schools.”
Kalu commented on President Tinubu’s performance over the last two years, saying, “I work closely with him. In just two years, the President has done exceptionally well. If we can give him the rewards of finishing another two years and serving another term, I believe the economy will alter significantly.”

The Abia senator said the endorsement of President Tinubu for another second term is not as rushed as is being believed in some places, and that the party did the correct thing to urge him to do more.
According to him, “The party did the right thing because we are in the middle of the campaign and we need to encourage the President to do more.” The sitting President has the right to run again, and we will fully support him.”
