As they get ready for their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualification match against the Benin Republic on Friday, the Super Falcons have made their camp in Lomé, Togo.
Asisat Oshoala, the six-time African Women’s Player of the Year, was among the first players to arrive at the Super Falcons’ camp, kicking off a hectic training week.
In addition to China-based striker Folashade Ijamilusi, Turkey-based defender Tosin Demehin, and newcomer Joy Omewa, she was joined by five players from her home country: Anderline Mgbechi, Blessing Ilivieda, Miracle Usani, Taiwo Afolabi, and Kafayat Mafisere.
Prior to the first-leg match, head coach Justine Madugu indicated that training would start on Monday afternoon, with an emphasis on tactical drills and fitness. “We’re focused on getting the girls ready for Friday’s game, and they’re coming in good spirits,” Madugu stated.
The game is set to begin at 3 p.m. local time (4 p.m. in Nigeria) at the 25,000-seat Stade de Kégué in Lomé to begin.
Both teams are hoping to earn a spot in the WAFCON in Morocco next year, which also acts as Africa’s qualifying route to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. This is the first game of a two-leg match between the West African neighbors.
On Tuesday, October 28, 2025, the second leg will take place at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta.
Gambian referee Ngum Fatou has been assigned by CAF to officiate the match. Mariem Chedad and Hamedine Houleye from Mauritania will support her, and Isatou Touray, a Gambian, will act as the fourth official.
Halimatou Hamidou of the Niger Republic will serve as the match commissioner, while Martha Nyekanyeka of Malawi will be in charge of refereeing evaluation responsibilities.
