Oyo NUJ Honours Vice Chairman Seye Ojo on Appointment to NUJ Board of Trustees

At the current National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Kano State, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, commended Comrade Seye Ojo, its Vice Chairman, on his recent promotion to the position of NUJ Board of Trustees (BOT).

The union expressed its sincere gratitude to the NUJ National President, Comrade Alhazan Yahyah, for the honor bestowed upon the Oyo State Council by appointing Ojo, in a joint statement signed by the State Secretary, Comrade Sola Oladapo, and the Council Chairman, Comrade Ademola Babalola.

“A well-deserved recognition of Comrade Ojo’s years of dedication, loyalty, and selfless service to the journalism profession and the NUJ,” the announcement said of the promotion.

Before being elected Vice Chairman of the Oyo NUJ Council, where he dutifully served alongside Chairman Babalola, Ojo, a multiple award-winning journalist with The Sun Newspapers, served as Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel in Oyo State.

Ojo has received honors, such as The Sun Newspapers’ 2024 Outstanding Achievement Award and the Nigerian Media Merit Award’s (NMMA) Notore Chemical Prize for Environment Reporter of the Year. In 2007, he was the recipient of the Gombe State State Honors Award from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

He attended Ajayi Crowther University and The Polytechnic Ibadan to study mass communication.

He has participated in numerous workshops and trainings hosted by the World Health Organization (WHO), Breakthrough Action Nigeria (BA-N), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the International Center for Investigative Reporting (ICIR), the United States Consulate General in Lagos, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC), and NUJ.

He was one of the Oyo State journalists who took part in the Media Tour of Ghana in 2008.

In his time at The Polytechnic Ibadan, he held the following positions: Public Relations Officer, Press Council; Sports Editor II, Eruwa Polyrays (a publication of the Mass Communication Department); Deputy Editor-in-Chief, Mirror Press Club; Chairman, Electoral Committee, Association of Student Communicators’ (ASCOM), Mass Communication Department; and General Secretary, Electoral Committee, Faculty of Business and Communication Studies Students’ Association (FABCOMSSA).

He had a brief stint at the Nigerian Tribune and Oyo Echo, a community newspaper, prior to joining The Sun Newspapers.

According to the statement, Ojo’s time as the Vice Chairman of NUJ, Oyo State Council, has been distinguished by his unflinching dedication to the union’s expansion, his unwavering allegiance to its leadership, and his excellent demonstration of professional ethics.

Additionally, from 2024 to 2025, Ojo represented NUJ on the Oyo State Social Mobilization Technical Committee (SSOMTEC), the Oyo State Social Behavioural Change Committee (SBC), and the Committee on Management/Disbursement of the Bodija Explosion Relief Fund of Oyo State Government.

Part of the statement said, “Your promotion to the BOT is a testament to your diligence, perseverance, and the confidence you have gained over the years from colleagues and the national leadership of our great union.”

The Oyo NUJ leadership prayed for Comrade Ojo’s health, strength, and wisdom as he begins this new chapter of service while commemorating the milestone.

“Your contributions will help shape the future of the NUJ for the better, and we are confident that you will bring the same dedication, integrity, and sense of responsibility to the BOT,” the statement continued.

Additionally, the Oyo NUJ reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Comrade Ojo in his new position and promised to collaborate with him to further the interests of journalists in Nigeria as a whole.
