When a tanker exploded near Lead City University Road at the Ibadan Toll Gate end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, business owners and others reportedly lost millions of Naira.
The owners of the impacted stores were left in a state of despair after the explosion, which was reported to have happened at 2:45 PM.
One of the wrecked stores reportedly had computer equipment worth millions of dollars.
A number of cars and motorbikes that were parked beside the road were also destroyed in the fire.
Whether any casualties resulted from the incident was still unknown at the time of this report.
But according to a source, the truck driver and his helper barely avoided suffering severe injuries.
The Federal Fire Service provided assistance, and Oyo State Fire Service personnel were on hand to control and contain the situation.
One of the impacted stores’ owners, who wished to remain anonymous, told The Nation, “I heard a bang from outside.” At first, I thought it was a gunshot.
“The air was filled with dense smoke before I realized what was going on.
Calls were routed to the fire department. But the action had been taken before they got there. The fire has robbed me of everything. Again, I’m not sure where to begin.
The Oyo State Fire Service’s general manager, Rev. Akinyinka, confirmed the occurrence and stated that his guys were present on the ground.
He claimed that the State Fire Services men had successfully stopped the fire from spreading to neighboring stores.
