The Grow Homes estate in the Chikakore neighborhood of Kubwa, the biggest suburban town in Abuja, was reportedly overrun by a squad of heavily armed kidnappers on Monday morning, holding inhabitants hostage for over an hour.

The incident happened between 12:00 AM and 1:30 AM, as was understood.
According to one of the terrified locals, who claimed to have seen a man and a woman being abducted by the kidnappers, the lady was found inside the estate at dawn after being freed by her captors for unknown reasons.

He could not, however, ascertain how many people were abducted in total.

It happened at around twelve in the morning. Armed to the teeth, those men overwhelmed the local vigilance team. After the police arrived at around one in the morning, there was a heated gunfight that lasted for almost half an hour.

“We’re pleading with the government to make this road easier for security patrol cars to access. The homeowner told Vanguard, “We also implore the police and, of course, the FCT Administration, to assist in setting up a station here for quick response.”

Governor Monday Okpebholo and the State House of Assembly are united in their strong opposition to the growing issue of kidnapping, according to the Edo State administration.

In a statement released last Thursday, Fred Itua, the governor’s chief press secretary, revealed this.

According to the government’s statement, “A STEP-BY-STEP BREAKDOWN OF NEW KIDNAPPING PROHIBITION LAW IN EDO STATE,” the Kidnapping Prohibition (Amendment) Law, 2025, was passed by the Edo State House of Assembly.

The Edo State administration has made it clear that it will no longer put up with criminal activity that infringes upon the sanctity of human freedom by deciding to implement such extensive and severe actions.

Law enforcement officer training, judicial sensitization, and public education of the amendments’ implications would be prioritized as the state carries out the requirements of this law. Itua pointed out that this multifaceted strategy is required to guarantee the law’s efficacy and create a safer Edo State where residents can live in peace.
