According to Alwan Hassan, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), most governors and ministers don’t really like President Bola Tinubu.
He said that the majority of politicians in the ruling party are drawn to him due to his influence during an appearance on Channels TV’s breakfast program, “Sunrise Daily,” on Tuesday.
He believes that the main threat to President Tinubu’s reelection may come from inside the ruling APC rather than from the opposition parties.
President Tinubu is not the top priority for many of our party’s ministers and governors (APC). He stated, “They want him for what he is, not for who he is.”
Hassan stated that he was extremely concerned by the behavior of several powerful members of the ruling party, pointing out that rather than showing devotion or dedication to Tinubu’s leadership, their acts show a pattern of political opportunism.
He maintained that the president was surrounded by individuals who were more concerned with gaining political advantage and personal benefit than they were with actually assisting his administration or guaranteeing his political success.
Hassan emphasized that any significant setback Tinubu would have could be from sabotage by those closest to him, saying that this internal mindset is what scares him the most when he considers the upcoming election.
Hassan responded, “It is our own self and the way we treat our own people that is making me scared of the election,” when asked if ADC posed a challenge to APC in the 2027 elections. The internal sabotage will take place.
Hassan claimed that similar warning signs were appearing within the APC, drawing a comparison to the political events that resulted in former President Goodluck Jonathan’s defeat in 2015.
He noted that a network of internal political players and sympathizers who opposed Jonathan in addition to outside opposition contributed to his downfall.
“This is exactly what happened to Jonathan. In order to defeat Jonathan in elections, we used many of his supporters. He stated, “That is the same thing that is occurring today.”
