Prior to its National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16, the PDP informed Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), on Wednesday that no one may impose any conditions on the party.
Remember how Wike said in a recent media chat in Abuja that even though the PDP crisis is currently over, if the party does not acknowledge the zonal congress that elected Chief Dan Orbih as the party’s National Vice Chairman, South-South, other crises will erupt?
In addition, Wike stated that “they said that they are going for their convention in November,” meaning that another crisis would arise unless his illness is addressed. I will not be involved until they have fixed it. We should wait till they have had a chance to fix it. Before discussing convention, settle the issue. If the issue is not resolved, a crisis will occur.
National Publicity Secretary Hon. Debo Ologunagba responded to these threats in a media-interaction session by saying, “PDP has not, and will not even take condition from anybody, who will follow that constitution anyway.” They have been operating as the South-South Zonal Caretaker Committee that we have established.
Members were informed that the PDP expects complete loyalty from them, and that the party will resort to using its Constitution if anyone violates or disobeys.
Loyalty is a personal matter, but in a party like this, we have stated that we expect it. The constitution will come into play if we ever learn that you don’t provide it. That was something I discussed earlier.
Our members must be completely loyal to us. That announcement has been made by us. The statement is effective. We are in that position today.
If a case is filed, there are procedures, Ologunagba stated in response to the Minister’s accusation that the party or PDP governors went to court to demand a reversal of the state of emergency imposed on Rivers state but failed to pursue the matter. My profession is law. Notices of hearings will be issued. In that instance, I am not. The side that brought the case has governors that I am acquainted with. Has the Supreme Court listed it? That is the issue that needs to be asked. A notice of hearing will be sent out if it has been listed. I would not be aware of hearing notification.
“Once more, let me tell you something,” he added. As you can see, being loud does not equate to having knowledge.

But according to Ologunagba, the party is currently concentrating on its planned National Convention in Ibadan.
Our attention is on our national convention,” he stated. If the court has cases pending, we let the proceedings proceed. I don’t think they’re doing a good job of pursuing it, either. If so, it is referred to as a lack of diligent prosecution in the legal system. You are aware of what to do if you believe that the party who filed the lawsuit will not adequately prosecute the case.
He underlined the party’s stance on the lawmakers who joined the APC, stating, “One of the decisions that we took as a party was, we directed the Legal Adviser to take steps to retrieve those positions, because constitutionally they’ve lost them by reason of their defection when there’s no division in our party.”
“What we will not accept is disloyalty to this party,” Ologunagba added, discussing party loyalty and the reasons why members shouldn’t leave. Our request is for complete and utter loyalty. What we expect from our members is that.
“There is no other political party where you can fulfill your political ambitions, so if anyone wants to leave, which we hope they don’t, they should stay here instead since it will be a journey of no discovery.
Naturally, PDP provided the instruction for 90% of those who are no longer with us. As a result, it indicates that PDP has a special quality. Those who wish to return are therefore welcome.
Out of rage, some were abducted. A few were removed due to false information, but we are presently strong, stable, and working toward the National Convention. We are ready to return, and now is the ideal moment. But betrayal is something that the party will not tolerate. Total will be the outcome. And we’re demanding it. We will implement it. The constitution will be used.
Regarding the party’s stance on the South-South congresses, Ologunagba stated that the party has already established a caretaker committee that is operating, adding, “What we did was to set up, in line with the provisions of the party constitution, set up a caretaker committee, Zonal Caretaker Committee for the South-South, headed by Elder Emma Ogidi.”
Regarding the rumors that Peter Obi and Goodluck Jonathan might run for president under the PDP in 2027, Ologunagba stated that he doesn’t get involved in speculation and that the party has a number of capable governors who are up for election.
The governors in our party are very competent, exceptionally qualified, and capable of becoming the nation’s president, he stated. You’re asking me if Jonathan is contesting; to find out, ask him. President Jonathan’s voice is not mine. You should ask him. Talk to him. I’m not supposed to make assumptions. The reason you are asking that question is beyond me. Ask Obi.
