The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Taminu Turaki, has promised to challenge the ruling of an Ibadan-based federal high court.
The PDP National Convention, which was held in the capital of Oyo State on November 15, 2025, was apparently declared unlawful by the court.
The court’s decision also prohibited Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) members from posing as the party’s national officers.
In its ruling on Friday, the court determined that, until a legitimate national convention is convened, the Caretaker Committee, which is headed by Senator Samuel Anyanwu and Mohammed Abdulrahman, is the only recognized leadership of the PDP.
In response, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, said in a statement that there is no reason to be alarmed despite the court ruling.
“We are aware of the judgment of the Federal High Court, Ibadan, delivered this morning, which essentially declined to grant the order of mandamus sought on the grounds that doing so would, in the court’s view, amount to sitting on appeal over judgments of courts of coordinate jurisdiction,” he said.
As a result, we have instructed our attorneys to submit an appeal right now and to take whatever additional legal action required to strengthen our case and defend our stance.
The Kabiru Turaki-led Peoples Democratic Party, which came from the Ibadan Convention, is still legally intact and unshaken notwithstanding this ruling, while we await the appellate courts’ official ruling.
