The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Forum of State Chairmen has stated that it is prepared to “soldier on” in the face of institutional tyranny, planned hostility, and calculated pressures.
As the PDP moves into a new leadership phase after its Ibadan National Convention, the forum also promised steadfast support for Kabiru Turaki (SAN), the new National Chairman.
Tony Aziegbemi, the chairman of the forum and the chairman of the Edo State PDP, as well as twenty-five other state chairmen, jointly signed the statement.
The 20-member National Working Committee (NWC), which was recently established, was touted in the statement as a stabilizing body that would guide the party through internal conflicts and outside pressures.
The forum declared, “We reaffirm our unwavering resolve to soldier on in defense of the enduring ideals of the Peoples Democratic Party in the face of calculated pressures, orchestrated hostilities, and callous institutional oppressions.”
It further stated that Turaki’s rise to prominence indicates a chance for the party’s national organization to become more cohesive.
The forum expressed gratitude to the PDP Governors’ Forum, especially to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for organizing the election convention that resulted in the creation of the new NWC.
“We convey profound appreciation to His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, Governor of Oyo State, for the seamless, well-organised, and successful hosting of the elective National Convention,” the statement stated.
Governors Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), head of the Convention Organizing Committee, Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), and Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, were also praised for organizing party procedures under a time of political unpredictability.
In an effort to preserve party unity, Dauda Lawal’s (Zamfara) and Ademola Adeleke’s (Osun) positions were also emphasized.
The PDP’s National Elective Convention, which took place in Ibadan from November 15–16, resulted in a new NWC that is anticipated to improve party operations throughout the states.
