A group within the Labour Party (LP) has declared the National Executive Committee (NEC), which was called by Abia State Governor Alex Otti and the party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, to be unlawful.
Umar Farouk Ibrahim, the Party’s National Secretary, said in a statement that Obi and Otti are attempting to take over the LP’s organization.
Otti reportedly led a high-level LP team to INEC’s Abuja headquarters on Wednesday to talk about significant party developments.
Governor Otti publicly handed a Certified True Copy of the most recent Supreme Court ruling regarding the party’s leadership during the visit to INEC.
The visit revealed Obi and Otti’s desperate attempt to seize control of the party’s leadership, Ibrahim remarked in response to the news.

“The Labour Party leadership has continued to live in an unhealthy paradise and delude themselves by attending an illegal NEC meeting called by Dr. Alex Otti, the governor of Abia State, and Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party,” he stated.
In an effort to urge the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to take unlawful action against our party leadership, Mr. Peter Obi led other party outlaws to the INEC headquarters after their unlawful meeting in Abuja today.
“The expedition has demonstrated the extreme desperation of Dr. Alex Otti and Peter Obi in their attempt to take over the party’s structure. If the Supreme Court’s ruling is indeed in their favor, why are they hurrying to INEC to exert excessive pressure on the Commission to act incorrectly?
They also claimed during their meeting today that they wanted to award Barrister Abure, the National Chairman, the job of Chairman of the Board of Trustees in order to give him an easy landing. It is not about Abure, however, but rather what the structures have stated because, regrettably for them, Abure did not appoint himself as the National Chairman. It is about doing things correctly and about the party’s organs being supreme.
We thus urge our members and the public to ignore the unlawful meeting and its conclusion, and we denounced it.
