On Tuesday, troops from the 3 Division/Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH) conducted a successful ambush operation in the Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State, neutralizing a suspected bandit, rescuing a kidnapped victim, and recovering firearms.
According to reports, the operation was carried out along the Kampani Zurak–Sabon Gari road as a component of the current Operation LAFIYAN JAMA’A, which aims to purge criminal groups from the Plateau and its surroundings.
Major Samson Zhakom, the Media Information Officer of Operation SAFE HAVEN, revealed the news in a statement released in Jos on Wednesday. He added that troops conducted an ambush at a known bandit route following the receipt of reliable information regarding a recent kidnapping in the region.
When the culprits were transporting their victim on a motorcycle during the ambush, troops caught them. Following a brief gunfight, one bandit was neutralized while the others ran into the jungle, according to Zhakom.
The 45-year-old victim of the kidnapping, Mr. Adamu Nuhu, was successfully freed by the army. After the rescue, the military reports that he is now getting the proper care and assistance.
A Boxer motorcycle, four rounds of 9mm ammo, one magazine, a fake pistol, and personal belongings left by the escaping thieves were among the items found at the scene.
“For additional investigation, the recovered weapons and equipment are presently in military custody,” Zhakom continued.
