Three female students from Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University of Agriculture, Makurdi, who were abducted have been reported to be freed by the Benue State Police Command.
A news update posted on 𝕏 on Thursday was the first to reveal their release from the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).
On February 25, 2025, it had stated that the students were kidnapped as they were leaving university for a night study session.
The Nigeria Police had promised that rescue attempts were underway for the four students who had been abducted from the Federal University of Agriculture, popularly known as J.S. Tarka University, in Benue State, following the incident.
Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, reaffirmed this in a statement on Thursday, February 27, 2025.

A week-long midterm break was announced by the university administration to address the security issues.
An internal memo titled “Security Situation on Campus,” signed by Registrar Dr. John David, was sent out the day following the kidnapping to convey this information.
Prior to this, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, the Minister of Women Affairs, and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) had urged increased efforts to secure the students’ release.
Their freedom’s specifics, however, have not yet been made public.
