In Asaba, the state capital, Delta State police have detained two male accomplices and a 29-year-old lady who staged her kidnapping.
SP Bright Edafe, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, said in a statement that the Delta State Police Command was notified of a kidnapping incident on July 21, 2025, at approximately 20:30 hours, in which a female victim was allegedly kidnapped by unidentified armed men in the Bonsaac neighborhood of Asaba.
The statement reads, “The Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, acted promptly on the report and instructed CSP Godwin Osadolor, the Commander of the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Squad, to ensure that the victim is rescued unharmed…”
In response, the command ordered operatives to begin a coordinated effort based on intelligence.
“On July 22, 2025, at around 9:00 a.m., the agents captured a male suspect named Alfred Elisha at Koka Roundabout in Asaba and another suspect named Ugochukwu Adim off DLA Road in Asaba through careful investigation and strategic deployment.”

When the suspects were apprehended, it became clear that the victim and he had conspired to abduct the victim instead. Merit Eleh, 29, the other suspect, was taken into custody as a result of his disclosure.
She acknowledged that the approximately three million six hundred thousand naira (₦3,600,000) that her brother had loaned her was utilized to pay for her bridal shower and lodging during her March 2025 wedding.
She went on to say that she had fabricated her kidnapping in order to obtain a three million naira (₦3,000,000) ransom, from which she handed her associates 500,000 naira and retained two million naira (₦2,500,000) for herself.
“The investigation is ongoing, and all suspects have been arrested.”
