As part of its efforts to combat cybercrime, the Nigeria Police Force has educated 192 officers nationwide in the usage of the Athena Forensic Intelligence Solution (AFIS).
Officers from the Federal Capital Territory, all 36 state commands, and 10 specialized units participated in the training, which took place from July 9 to August 15, 2025, and was organized in collaboration with Radio Tactics Group Limited.
The initiative was created to boost forensic and digital skills for better investigations, the Force said.

Detecting threats and analyzing information from satellite phones, GPS units, SIM cards, and other mobile devices were among the skills officers learned.

They were also proficient in biometric capture and the linkage of operational data with intelligence records using forensic hotlists.

Three people have been arrested, the police said, while stepping up their efforts to combat cybercrime.

For online fraud, identity theft, and cyberstalking, Gbenga Samuel, Dele Titus, and Olalekan Oke were arrested in Abuja and Lagos.

On July 18, 2025, the suspects accessed a WhatsApp account, got in touch with the owner, and wanted ₦3 million to keep private information safe, according to investigations.

After forensic investigation linked the activities to them, they were apprehended and the compromised account was recovered.

The Force will keep implementing digital strategies and enhancing officer training to meet international standards in combating cybercrime, according to Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun.
