Akwa Ibom State Police Command has killed one Ubong Effiong Archibong, also known as ‘Condiment,’ a notorious kidnapping kingpin and leader of the Bling Bling Marine Strike Force.
In a statement issued from Uyo, the state capital, ASP Timfon John, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, detailed the operation in a release titled “Notorious Kidnap Kingpin/Sea Pirate Meets Waterloo” on Thursday.
The statement revealed that Archibong was killed during a gunfight with police operatives at his hideout in Uyanga Community, Cross River State. A G3 rifle and ammunition were recovered from him.
Archibong was implicated in several high-profile crimes, including the kidnapping of High Court Judge Joy Unwana and the murder of her police orderly, Inspector ThankGod Edet, last year. He was also connected to the brutal killing of the CEO of Emem and Sons Nig. Ltd and the abduction of his sales representative and Pharmacist Joemel.
“The Akwa Ibom State Police Command, on Wednesday, 28th August 2024, neutralised a dreaded kidnap kingpin/sea pirate whose stock-in-trade was to kidnap, kill, maim, and cause havoc in society”, John said.
He further stated that Archibong was behind the kidnappings of Pharmacist Joemel and Mr. Brown, CEO of Mingles Hotel.
The police confirmed that Archibong’s body was recovered and deposited at the morgue, and that fforts to apprehend other members of the gang are ongoing.
