The Nigeria Police Force has denied a widely shared video on social media that purports to show camouflaged officers collecting petrol from the wreckage of a tanker accident.

This was announced on Monday by Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, via X.

According to the police, the people in the video are not Nigeria Police Force officers.
Rather, they are uniformed officers from a francophone neighbor whose camouflage uniforms are very similar to those of the Nigerian police.

“The widely shared video that shows camouflaged uniformed personnel collecting fuel from the wreckage of an accident tanker was recently released to disparage the Nigeria Police Force,” the statement continues. The fact that the people in the video are not Nigeria Police Force officers must be made clear.

The camouflage uniforms of these uniformed personnel from a neighboring francophone nation are similar to those of the Nigeria Police.

The statement claims that instead of using English or any Nigerian language, the officers in the video were speaking French.

“The officers who were captured were speaking French, not English or a Nigerian language.”

The dissemination of such unsubstantiated news and disinformation, which aims to damage the reputation of the Nigeria Police Force, was sharply denounced by the police.
