In order to combat abduction throughout Nigeria, the Nigeria Police Force has launched a new strategy.
This action is to strengthen internal security, according to NPF.
The Force emphasized recent accomplishments, including as rescue missions that secured the safe release of victims, neutralized kidnappers, and recovered weapons.
The police reaffirmed their commitment to guaranteeing the safety of all Nigerians in a statement released Thursday under the title “Kidnapping: Police Re-Strategise to Curb Kidnapping, 3 Kidnappers Neutralised, Victims Rescued in Dangerous Operations,” which was issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
Success in Benue
On December 31, 2024, Benue State police officers from the Vandiekya Police Divisional Headquarters reacted to a distress call about Tor Gajir’s kidnapping in Kwande Local Government Area, according to the statement.
According to him, they found the kidnappers’ hideout in Adikpo after apprehending a suspect named Desmond Ahar.
When the operatives arrived, they were in the middle of a heated gunfight.
“Three of the kidnappers were neutralized in the ensuing confrontation, while others fled with bullet wounds,” the statement said.
In addition to recovering two AK-47 weapons, six filled magazines, and numerous rounds of live ammo, the victim was medically attended to and rescued undamaged.
Operations in Bayelsa and Nasarawa
Police officers in Nasarawa State found an abandoned Sienna car on the Keffi-Kaduna Highway on December 28, 2024, during another operation.
They found two captives and freed them without incident after following leads. There are still efforts on to capture the escaping kidnappers.

Agents from the Bayelsa State Command stopped Usman Mohammed on his way to Rivers State on January 7, 2025. A Type 09 AR, magazines, 120 rounds of ammo, and an AK-47 rifle were among the weapons found in his car during a search.
While the investigation is ongoing, the suspect was taken into custody.
IG responds
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, meantime, praised the officers’ collaboration and gallantry in these operations.
According to the IGP, “the incidents highlight the dedication of our police officers to keeping our communities safe,” and they should continue to make sure that internal security is maintained.
He also urged people to cooperate with law enforcement and maintain their vigilance in order to improve public safety.
“We can guarantee a safer Nigeria if we work together,” Egbetokun continued.
