A tragic incident involving an accidental discharge by a police officer in Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State, has resulted in the death of a nursing mother, Ifeoluwa Adekolu.
The incident occurred near the Oke-Ila Police Station.
According to report, the woman was standing across the road from the police station when an officer, who had arrived from another division, fired his weapon in celebration of a colleague’s promotion. Unfortunately, a stray bullet struck her.

She was quickly rushed to a hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The state Commissioner of Police, recently promoted to Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Adewale Adeniran, confirmed the incident.
He noted that the officer involved has been disarmed and detained by the police command.
AIG Adeniran stated that the officer will undergo interrogations in accordance with the Nigeria Police Act.
