The current surge of political defections in the state has been called “unprecedented” by Dr. Jinadu Garvey Yaweh, State Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, National Youth Vanguard branch in Taraba State.

In response to inquiries from reporters on Monday in the state capital of Jalingo, Yaweh stated that the gradual shift of politicians from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC had been more intense in recent weeks.

He claims that each of the State House of Assembly’s 24 members,
He characterized this as a major restructuring of the state’s political systems, as the Speaker and others have now joined the APC.
He added that the PDP’s political apparatus in the state was “almost empty” due to the defection of a number of senior government officials, including commissioners, the PDP State Chairman, Abubakar Bawa, and the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Gebon Timothy Kataps.

He praised Governor Agbu Kefas as “an embodiment of justice, fairness, and political maturity” and ascribed the trend to his uniting leadership style.

He asserted that even though Governor Kefas had not officially declared his support for the APC, he had already done so “unofficially,” with the ceremonial ceremony still to come.

He claims that the governor’s official transition to the APC was postponed because of recent national security concerns, especially the attack in Kebbi State, which led to an examination of his political activities.

The youth head of the APC contended that Taraba would benefit more from a national alliance with the ruling party since it would facilitate the attraction of development initiatives.

Additionally, he disregarded worries that Nigeria was moving toward a one-party system, arguing that the present wave of defections demonstrated strong leadership and political clarity, which he said would promote unity and hasten Taraba’s growth.
