Presidency Breaks Silence on Tinubu’s Decision to Change Service Chiefs

The Presidency has shed more light on President Bola Tinubu’s recent decision to replace Nigeria’s service chiefs, saying it was prompted by his concerns over the handling of the nation’s security challenges.
According to report, the clarification was made by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Thursday.
There had been widespread speculation that the shake-up followed an alleged coup attempt against the Tinubu administration. However, Onanuga dismissed such claims, stressing that the move was a routine leadership transition aimed at strengthening the security architecture of the country.
“It’s a normal change in leadership,” Onanuga said. “The President is worried about the way security issues are being tackled and decided to inject fresh energy into the system. He has directed the new service chiefs to ensure that the insurgency which began in 2009 does not resurface after 16 years of conflict. The President wants them to do everything possible to bring an end to the insecurity once and for all.”
Addressing the coup rumours, Onanuga described them as mere fabrications fueled by sensational media reporting.
“It was nothing more than a rumour,” he explained. “Some journalists publish stories without weighing their importance or benefit to the public. Many of these reports are simply written to attract attention, generate clicks, and stir unnecessary anxiety among Nigerians.”
