Calling them “frustrated politicians,” the president has rejected opposition leaders’ efforts to unite against President Bola Tinubu in advance of the 2027 elections.
According to Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s special assistant on strategy and communications, the president is not sidetracked by self-serving political relationships and is still intent on governing.
As you may remember, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar declared on Thursday that he and other opposition leaders will join a coalition to run against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming ballot. Political stakeholders staged a news conference in Abuja to oppose Tinubu’s proclamation of a state of emergency in Rivers State, and he spoke at the event.
Former governors of Kaduna State Nasir el-Rufai, Imo State Emeka Ihedioha, Salihu Lukman, and Babachir Lawal, the former secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), were among those who attended the briefing.

Reacting in a statement on Thursday, Onanuga emphasized the administration’s accomplishments as it approaches the midterm milestone and emphasized Tinubu’s continued commitment to national advancement.
“President Tinubu’s goal is to create a prosperous nation through effective governance. He’s getting close to doing this. Two months before his midterm, he has a lot of noteworthy accomplishments to share. Problems that cannot be solved are being addressed head-on. He must let the alleged political coalition divert his attention. They are not politicians who prioritize the general welfare. They only have their own interests in mind. They are unhappy. The group is irritated. They are bitter losers, the leaders. An assortment of Tinubu haters make up the coalition. He wrote on X, “Tinubu’s stop is their goal.
