Security agencies are fully aware of the identities and locations of the bandit groups responsible for recent mass kidnappings, including the attack on St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, Niger State, according to Bayo Onanuga, Special Advisor to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy.
Onanuga revealed the information in an interview with Prime Time on ARISE News on Monday.
He claims that even though security personnel have the required intelligence, the possibility of collateral damage to civilians being held by the bandits frequently limits their actions.
“Every bandit operating in that axis is known to the security personnel.” They are familiar. They are aware of where they work,” he stated.
Onanuga emphasized that the government cannot merely attack the designated enclaves with airplanes.
“The area where they operate is home to our people. Thus, you can’t simply go there. They must exercise extreme caution to avoid bombing innocent Nigerians while pursuing these bandits, he warned.
The presidential assistant brought up an earlier instance in Borno State where civilians were accidentally hit by the military.
“The military bombed the wrong people in Borno State a few years ago when they believed they had the correct satellite connection. He stated, “They have to steer clear of such kind of error.
He continued by saying that neither the school nor the Christian Association of Nigeria’s Niger State branch had produced comprehensive documents, thus there is still dispute on the precise number of kidnapped kids.

Onanuga further stated that the principal of the institution had “disappeared,” making the verification procedure more difficult.
