Bayer Leverkusen manager and former Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso is set to make a comeback to the Santiago Bernabéu, this time as head coach.
Alonso’s contract with Real Madrid for a managerial position that will last until 2028 has been finalized, according to prominent transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano.
With Carlo Ancelotti, the club’s current manager, set to leave following a successful tenure, the deal essentially brings in a new era.

Romano announced the big news on Monday through his official X account, writing: “Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid, here we go! Xabi has been confirmed as the new manager, and the deal is completed until 2028.

Alonso’s appointment also comes with a full backroom staff already set up, and the squad is reportedly making plans for him to take over for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, where Real Madrid is expected to play as the Champions League winners.
“Staff sorted, contract in place, and three-year deal for Alonso with Real ready for him to start at FIFA Club World Cup,” Romano then said.

Success at the club is synonymous with Carlo Ancelotti, who will leave with honor after leading the team to multiple championships in his two tenures as manager. The changeover under Alonso’s leadership is anticipated to go smoothly.

Romano said, “Ancelotti farewell soon, then Xabi era,” as he concluded his report.
