Remi Tinubu Points to Family Value Collapse as Cause of Growing Insecurity

Oluremi Tinubu, Nigeria’s First Lady, has attributed the rise in insecurity on the breakdown of family values.
“Families must regain their role as the foundation of society,” Tinubu remarked at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College in Jaji, Kaduna State, where Exercise Haske Biyu 2025 was inaugurated.

The First Lady, speaking through the vice president’s wife, Hajiya Nana Shettima, pointed out that many parents have neglected their fundamental responsibility of raising children in their fight for survival, leaving them open to extremist ideologies, drug misuse, prostitution, and cultism.

Bad company and destructive behavior frequently fill the vacuum left by the absence of parents. The result is harmful for national security in addition to being disastrous for families,” she said.

She says the family is still the cornerstone of society, teaching Nigerians of all ethnicities, faiths, and customs the principles of duty, sacrifice, love, and respect.

She emphasized that “a strong family builds a strong nation.”

In his capacity as Special Guest of Honor, Tinubu also emphasized the importance of religion in fostering morals and unity, calling on religious and traditional leaders to step up their efforts to instill moral values in young people and teach them the proper Christian faith.

Citing the expanded Conditional Cash Transfer program, which will provide 15 million disadvantaged households with ₦25,000 in three installments, she reassured that President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda was dedicated to helping families.
