Philip Agbese, a member of the House of Representatives who represents the Ado, Okpokwu, and Ogbadibo Federal Constituency, has commented on the current political turmoil in Rivers State, stating that it is controllable and not a reason for concern.

Following the Rivers State House of Assembly’s decision to start impeachment procedures against Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who the lawmakers accused of egregious misbehavior, including alleged financial embezzlement, Agbese’s remarks come amid increased political tension.

The federal politician discussed the developing impeachment story during an appearance on ARISE News, emphasizing that the events shouldn’t be overstated or let to undermine the state’s oil-rich government.

Agbese claims that political change is partially to blame for the crisis, pointing out that the governor and a number of Rivers State House of Assembly members recently switched from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Agbese, who also serves as the House of Representatives’ deputy spokesperson, contended that rather than reflecting the ideals of the APC, some of the problems are the result of political culture and practices from their previous party.

“As demonstrated at the national level, our party embodies exemplary organization, a strong commitment to peace and tranquility, and seamless executive-legislative synergy,” Agbese stated.

He underlined that Rivers State’s political players must put aside long-standing animosities and adopt the APC’s tenets, which he defined as being based on collaboration, stability, and efficient governance.

“To promote harmonious governance for the benefit of the people of Rivers State, it is imperative that all political actors relinquish lingering animosity from their past, fully embrace the enlightened doctrines enshrined in the APC manifesto, and swiftly adapt,” he continued.

Agbese also urged all parties involved to put peace and development ahead of political differences and urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene and assist in resolving the issue before it worsens.

“I sincerely beg Mr. President to act quickly and guide all parties involved toward long-term harmony and prosperity. He declared, “Rivers State deserves and will achieve enduring peace.
