Report: Chelsea closing in on announcing their new manager, it’s now really close

Reports have claimed that Chelsea are closing in on announcing their new manager.
According to The Guardian, the Blues are close to reaching an agreement to name Mauricio Pochettino as their new manager on a permanent basis.
It has been a proper rollercoaster journey since Graham Potter was finally sacked as manager a few weeks ago.
It looked as if it was going to be a race between Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique for the vacant role, and the German could easily be perceived as the favourite.
Given the timing of his sacking from Bayern Munich, and his desire to not return to a managerial role until the end of the season, it looked like the upcoming permanent job at Stamford Bridge was being sculpted for him.
Pochettino close to Chelsea job
However, Nagelsmann was apparently concerned about the length of time the recruitment process was taking, and how he may not actually be selected as the best man for the job.
Now, it has been Pochettino who has emerged as the top candidate for the job, and reports are now saying that the deal could be done extremely soon.
It has previously been claimed that the playing squad, who have no doubt been aware of the twists and turns in the process so far, are collectively open to the idea of the former Tottenham and PSG man to become their next boss.
The current situation at Stamford Bridge is pretty dire, and Frank Lampard is currently without a win in his second tenure in charge.

While he may have personally had ambitions of being handed the job on a permanent basis, being knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid will have all-but eliminated his prospects of getting the role.
