The House of Representatives Committee on Financial Crimes has summoned the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, over budgetary allocation to the commission.
He will appear before the committee with his management team on July 30 to answer questions about the commission’s budget performance and challenges.
The committee chairman, Obinna Onwusibe, gave the directive during an oversight of the commission’s office on Friday in Abuja.
The committee visited the EFCC headquarters on Friday after communicating with the commission and agreed on a date for an oversight visit.
After the members were denied access to the commission’s complex, they headed back to their bus and returned to the National Assembly.
The lawmakers were later told that the chairman was called for an emergency development at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Onwusibe in his reaction condemned the denial of the committee members access to the EFCC complex.
He said: “In performing our constitutional functions we had written to the EFCC for this oversight visit.
“The latest letter to EFCC was last week and we all agreed that the oversight will take place today (Friday).
“The essence of the oversight is for the committee to know the budget performance of the EFCC as appropriated by this national assembly.
“That was exactly why we went and also saw other things, including the challenges being faced by the EFCC.”
