A woman has died in a tragic accident at Tumu market in Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State.
The victim, 32-year-old Hauwa’u Abubakar, lost her life on Monday after her clothes got caught in a rice milling machine.
She suffered a severe neck injury and was rushed to the Cottage Hospital, but doctors confirmed her dead on arrival.
Police in Gombe said her body was later given to her family for burial according to Islamic rites.
The command described the incident as very unfortunate and warned people to be careful around milling and grinding machines.
“People should avoid standing too close to moving machines and should not wear flowing clothes or scarves near them. Operators are also advised to put protective covers on their machines and keep children away,” the police said in a statement.
Residents have also been urged to quickly report unsafe use of machines in their communities to help prevent similar tragedies.
