President Bola Tinubu’s six-month emergency rule in Rivers State will not hurt Senator Ayodele Arise’s chances of winning reelection in 2027, according to Ayodele Arise, a leader of the All Progressives Congress, or APC, in Ekiti State.
In an address to reporters in Abuja on Sunday, Senator Arise, who served as the representative for the Ekiti North Senatorial District from 2007 to 2011, affirmed this belief, stating that the President’s action kept Rivers from devolving into anarchy.
Political tensions in the state had risen prior to the emergency rule, the former lawmaker said, resulting in violent episodes and threats to critical infrastructure.
For the most part, we must give the President credit for his choice. The circumstances in Rivers State were on the verge of becoming unmanageable at that time. He stated that the intervention was required to protect vital national resources and restore order.
He asserts that Rivers continues to be vital to Nigeria’s economy and that the oil and gas industry depends on state peace.

Sen. Arise brushed aside claims that the ruling would hurt President Tinubu’s standing in Rivers State while discussing the political ramifications.
Drawing on the party’s results in the 2024 presidential election and subsequent local government polls, the APC mainstay went on to say that the party has fortified its grassroots structures.
He emphasized their impact in forming grassroots politics in the run-up to 2027 and pointed out that both Governor Fubara and Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, have responsibilities to ensure peace and stability in the state.
The period Assembly members, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, and Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu were suspended by President Tinubu after a six-month period of emergency was declared, as the DAILY POST remembers.
To manage the state during that time, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd), a former Chief of Naval Staff, was designated as the only administrator.
The suspension ended after six months, and all elected officials were reinstated, including the governor and lawmakers.
