On Thursday, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd), the recently appointed Sole Administrator for Rivers State, returned to Port Harcourt to officially take up his duties.
He arrived at Port Harcourt International Airport in Omagwa at around 11:25 am, and security guards and high-ranking state officials greeted him with open arms. He was immediately given a guard of honor at the airport.
“Port Harcourt is my city,” Ibas said in an interview with the media, expressing his satisfaction with the state’s circumstances. Everything seems at ease. He affirmed his resolve to restore the city to its former splendor.
Ibas went to Government House in Port Harcourt with the State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, and the Assistant Inspector General of Police for Zone 16.

Before going to the Executive Council Chamber, where he spoke to Government House officials and service chiefs, he was shown around the Government House by important officials.
Ibas acknowledged the efforts of his predecessors in a brief press conference, saying, “I want to thank you all for what you have been doing so far.”
“I met with the head of service and service commanders upon arrival,” he added. “For a formal briefing, I will need to meet with them.” He concluded, “I promise that I will have to speak to you about some matters you are interested in late tonight.”
Ibas, who was wearing native clothing that was all white, also spoke about how welcomed he was when he arrived.
