Ezebunwo Ichemati, the ousted Chairman of Port Harcourt Local Government Area, has denied claims that the suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminialayi Fubara, bowed before his predecessor cum Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to ask forgiveness.
According to reports, Fubara met with Wike in Abuja as part of a broader reconciliation effort to resolve Rivers State’s persistent political issue.
The meeting was purportedly facilitated by two APC governors and a former Southwest governor.
During the meeting, Fubara reportedly bowed and begged Wike for forgiveness, pleading for assistance in restoring him as governor.
However, in a statement issued on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, Ichemati stated that Fubara was in good spirits and committed to Rivers’ peace and progress, but he would not do it with his knees on the ground.
Ichemati urged the people to dismiss the lies, stating that the reports were produced to mislead the public.
He stated, “Someone who did not lie down on the ground to beg or plead to become governor cannot do the same to remain so.

“In conflict, no one party bears sole responsibility, so propaganda for a certain group is pointless.
“Genuine reconciliation requires negotiations and shifting of grounds by all parties concerned, not begging.
“Ignore the lies of begging, even if you are mumu, no matter what lie you think you hear and believe, even if it tickles your fancy or soothes your camp’s ego.
“We need peace for Rivers State’s growth. Governor Siminalayi Fubara is in excellent spirits and passionately committed to Rivers State’s peaceful development, which he will not achieve on his knees, no matter how humble you believe he is.
