Prominent activists, labor unions, and elder statesmen have approved the planned protest at the National Assembly on Monday, according to Solomon Dalung, a former minister of youth and sports development.
Human rights attorney Femi Falana (SAN), former Education Minister Oby Ezekwesili, renowned economist Prof. Pat Utomi, former Nigeria Labour Congress president Ayuba Wabba, political activist Usman Bugaje, Senator Shehu Sani, and members of the Obidient Movement are among the notable individuals anticipated to take part in the planned protest known as “Occupy NASS,” according to a report.
Dalung claimed in an interview with Channels Television that the planned demonstration was a justifiable reaction to the Senate’s deterioration of democratic norms and public confidence.
Dalung endorsed the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2026 in the face of mounting indignation over the Senate’s decision to eliminate the requirement for electronic transmission of election results.
In response, the former minister criticized the 10th Senate for its treatment of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill and its choice to forego the requirement that election results be transmitted electronically.
“The Senate is not well-known. Therefore, it cannot provide Nigerians with an election that is credible or that is trustworthy. According to him, the credibility of the survey determines how individuals behave and respond to what the Senate President deems to be ongoing.
He said that the current legislature had fallen short of its fundamental democratic duty to reflect Nigerians’ views, especially when it came to matters that made elections credible.

Stressing that electoral laws are the foundation of democratic administration and should not be taken lightly, the minister criticized parliamentarians for moving forward with changes to the Electoral Act without extensive public input.
Dalung said that he had serious doubts about the Senate’s motivations and cautioned Nigerians against supporting any reforms that may compromise the fairness of upcoming elections.
