Senator Barau I. Jibrin, the Senate’s deputy president, has brushed off recent requests for him to be chosen as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s running mate for the general elections in 2027, calling the agitation needless and premature.
Senator Barau urged the Northern Nigeria Progressive Youth Assembly (NNPYA) and other organizations making the demand to stop their campaigns in a statement released on Tuesday through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir. Instead, he asked them to concentrate on helping President Tinubu’s government implement the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“Groups like the Northern Nigeria Progressive Youth Assembly (NNPYA) have posted on social media and in certain national dailies, calling on our leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to choose me as his running partner in 2027. These posts have caught my attention. “This is not in our best interests and is out of place right now,” he said.
The success of the current government should be the top goal for all Nigerians, according to Barau, who is also the First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament. He pleaded, “If you are genuinely my supporters, please stop this needless clamor and board the train to bring back our nation’s illustrious past under President Tinubu’s capable leadership.”

The senator urged people to support the government’s measures, many of which he claimed are already having an impact, and reaffirmed his dedication to the president’s agenda. “President Tinubu is sincerely dedicated to improving the situation in our nation. For the good of all Nigerians, let us assist him in carrying out his programs,” he continued.
The announcement coincides with an increase in political discussion about the 2027 elections, namely about Vice President Kashim Shettima’s potential inclusion on the ticket.
