The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is prepared to accept politicians looking for a new platform in light of the country’s recent political changes, according to Seriake Dickson, the party’s founder and national leader.
Dickson said this while discussing the party’s strategy in light of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) recent registration.
In February, the NDC was formally registered as a political party by the electoral commission.
Dickson, a former governor of Bayelsa State and senator from Bayelsa West, declared on March 5 that he had joined the recently formed party.
In an effort to reach more people nationwide, the party introduced a digital site for membership registration a few days later, on March 15.
The legislator claims that Nigerians looking for a respectable political platform are welcome to join the NDC.
“Any Nigerian who is currently powerless and wants a change can join our party,” he declared.
Dickson added that politicians who feel politically dislocated as a result of the nation’s recent events are invited to join the party.
He added, “The NDC is also available to all politicians who need a platform that is clean and unencumbered with any political crisis and who are stranded as a result of the country’s political developments.”
According to him, the party is not based on conventional political structures but rather on ideals and service.
He went on, “The NDC is an ideological party that represents a new kind of politics of ideas and service.”
Dickson claimed that several political actors were uneasy about the NDC’s formation and quick expansion.
“I have bad news for those who spread misinformation and misleading information, as well as their sponsors; they haven’t seen anything yet. “The NDC is here to stay and will mobilize throughout Nigeria,” he declared.
He called on Nigerians to back the party’s cause both domestically and abroad.
“They should be reminded that no force can stop an idea whose time has come, even though some may feel threatened by our momentum,” he stated.
Dickson continued by quoting Mahatma Gandhi, the champion of Indian independence: “First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, and then you win.” The NDC will triumph.
Dickson’s comments coincide with the continuing conflict within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) after INEC de-recognized its leadership because of unresolved legal disputes.
Speculation over potential political realignments ahead of upcoming elections has been triggered by the scenario.
The former governor also addressed Umar Ardo’s remarks, which he characterized as sponsored propaganda against the party and misinformed.
Dickson added that considering their past history, Ardo’s comments were unexpected.
He claims that when INEC relaxed the ban on new political party registrations last year, the NDC resumed its registration procedure.
Dickson stated, “Dr. Ardo is aware of all of this because we spoke as friends, and he explained his frustrations stemming from INEC’s refusal to register the ADA.”
He continued by saying that he had suggested Ardo take his complaints to court.
Dickson emphasized that the NDC is not involved in the legal concerns pertaining to the ADA’s registration.
“I am aware of the difficulties he faces in court due to disagreements with other ADA proponents, and the NDC has nothing to do with this and therefore cannot bear any responsibility for his disappointment and frustration,” he stated.
