Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the senator from Kogi Central, has denounced her suspension from the Senate, calling it an affront to the values of equity, justice, and fairness.
On Thursday, the Senate suspended Akpoti-Uduaghan for a period of six months after its Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions recommended it.
In addition, as part of the disciplinary proceedings, the lawmakers removed her wages and allowances.
The Senate suspended her for what it described as a “total violation of the Senate Standing Orders, 2023 as amended.”
However, specifics of the purported infraction were not made public right away.
The senator responded to the news on her Facebook page, criticizing the ruling as an effort to intimidate and silence her.

“The principles of natural justice, fairness, and equity are invalidated by my unjust suspension from the Nigerian Senate, which goes against the culture of silence, intimidation, and victim-shaming,” she said.
She further stated that her credibility as an elected senator remains unaffected by the suspension and promised to keep serving her constituency.
The unlawful suspension does not negate my authority as a Federal Republic of Nigeria senator. Until 2027 and beyond, I will keep using my duly elected position to serve my constituents and my country as best I can,” she said.
