The Katsina State Police Command has successfully foiled two kidnapping attempts in the state, rescuing a total of seven victims.

According to the command’s spokesman, ASP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, the first incident occurred on Wednesday at Yan Shantuma village in Danmusa Local Government Area.

“On Wednesday, at about 4:30 pm, a distress call was received at the Danmusa Divisional Police Headquarters that some suspected bandits attacked the village,” Sadiq-Aliyu said. “The suspected bandits kidnapped three persons, rustled 23 goats, robbed the villagers of foodstuffs and some valuables.”

The police mobilized operatives in collaboration with the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC) and ambushed the assailants at Tashar Ice village, leading to a fierce fight. The assailants fled with gunshot injuries, and all three kidnapped victims were rescued unhurt, with the stolen items recovered.

In the second incident, on Tuesday at about 6:50 pm, information was received at Safana Divisional Police Headquarters that a Volkswagen Golf II wagon was seen abandoned by the roadside at Gobirawa village along Gora-Runka road, with its occupants suspected to have been kidnapped.

The DPO mobilized a search and rescue team to the scene, and after a fierce gun duel with the suspected kidnappers, four occupants of the abandoned vehicle were successfully rescued and rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

“Efforts are being intensified with a view to arresting the fleeing bandits as the investigation proceeds,” Sadiq-Aliyu said.

The Commissioner of Police in the state commended the efforts of the operatives and urged them to sustain the tempo. He called on residents to keep providing the command and other security agencies with crucial and timely information on criminal activities.
