The Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Ltd. (SNEPCo) has declared that it and its co-venture partners will keep executing significant investments.
In a recent outreach event held in Lagos as part of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd.’s (NNPC) and Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Ltd.’s (SNEPCo) Vision First project, SNEPCo Managing Director Ronald Adams
Over 2,000 people used the outreach to get healthcare treatments, and there have been reports of sights returned.
After a few years of not being able to see my lovely wife well, I can now see her perfectly. Ademola Alabi Joshua, one of the beneficiaries, declared, “I am really happy,” following eye surgery to remove a cataract.
My first eye was operated on when I arrived, and I found that I could see very well the second day. I made the decision to have the second eye operated on as well, and today I found that my sight had returned to normal. I greatly appreciate it.
Mrs. Taiwo Onogu, another recipient, claimed that she was charged N1.4 million for the eye surgery, which was ultimately performed at the outreach for free.
It was the fourth outreach in Lagos since the launch of the Vision First program in 2022, and it took place in the Mushin Local Council Development Area for five days. Among other procedures, the medical team operated on 245 patients, 198 of whom had cataracts and 47 of whom had pterygium. While the pharmacy provided medication to 1,863 patients, another 1,992 obtained laboratory tests. General consultation was given to around 1,652 people.

With the most recent milestones, the initiative has distributed more than 2,000 pairs of spectacles and performed over 400 eye operations, reaching over 6,000 people since 2022.
Ronald Adams, Managing Director of SNEPCo, offered the following commentary on the program’s impact: “We’re pleased at the testimonies from Mushin, which were the same positive feedback from the three earlier sessions. Vision is an important part of life.” We will continue to carry out significant social investments, which have been a crucial component of our business since we invented deep-water oil production at Bonga in 2005, with the help of NNPC and our co-venture partners.
In light of a 2019 National Eye Health Policy report that found that blindness in three out of four Nigerians is preventable, the Vision First project seeks to prevent avoidable visual impairment through early diagnosis and treatment.
