The Nigerian government has said that six passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries following the Abuja–Kaduna train derailment in Jere on Tuesday.
Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji, spokesperson of the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau, NSIB, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
DAILY POST reported that the Abuja–Kaduna-bound train derailed around 11:00 am in Jere, leaving passengers stranded.
Giving an update on the incident, the NSIB IT team deployed to the scene confirmed that there were no fatalities; however, five persons were injured.
It added that the agency is collaborating with other relevant bodies to investigate the circumstances that led to the derailment.
“Current information available indicates that six persons sustained injuries, and there are no recorded fatalities,” it stated.
DAILY POST also reports that the Nigerian Railway Corporation has suspended services along the Abuja–Kaduna corridor following the incident.
