In recognition of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to reverse years of federal neglect in the region, Minister of Works David Umahi has called on South-East residents to band together in support of Tinubu.
President Tinubu’s appointment of South-East zone residents to key government positions, like as his own as Minister of Works, Chief of Naval Staff, and Minister of Science and Technology, was praised by the previous governor of Ebonyi State.
These appointments, according to Umahi, are important milestones in reintegrating the South-East into national governance.
“Previously, many Southeast states had no federal projects,” he remarked. The federal presence is evident throughout the region today. True national integration looks like that.

“This government is helping us regain the political ground we once lost. Although it isn’t flawless yet, we are no longer behind. We have to accept that and back the President.
Umahi also exhorted zone dwellers to embrace positive interaction with the federal government and shun divisive speech.
Before counting two, the South-East must count one. Reintegration, not seclusion, is what we need. This process has been initiated by President Tinubu; we must not squander the chance,” he said.
According to him, the President’s national integration plan and governance achievements are enough to guarantee his return to Aso Rock by 2027.
The opposition leaders calling for a coalition against President Tinubu in 2027 were also criticized by the Minister, who called them unreliable and anonymous.
According to reports, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, Peter Obi of the Labour Party, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, and other politicians have been discussing forming a coalition movement to overthrow Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress in 2027.
Other coalition leaders include Salihu Lukman, the former National Vice Chairman (North West) of the APC, and Babachir Lawal, the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
Umahi said Tinubu has shown exceptional leadership for Nigerians and merits a second term during the 2025 Sallah celebration with the Muslim community in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.
The ministry commended President Tinubu for fostering national unity and interfaith harmony at what he called a “unprecedented level.”
He added that the President’s decision to lead a Nigerian delegation to the Vatican for the inauguration of the Pope was a “unique and historic” act that shocked many Christians and marked the beginning of a new age of religious tolerance.
