Omoyele Sowore, a human rights advocate and former presidential contender, was charged by the Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Federal Government on Tuesday.
It was understood that Sowore was charged with five counts of causing a breakdown in law and order by posting fake information about President Tinubu.
Sowore, the publisher of the online daily Sahara Reporters, is in the Federal High Court Abuja courtroom to respond to accusations that he engaged in cyberstalking, cyberbullying, and fabricating information on Tinubu.
X. Incorporation and Meta (Facebook) are two additional defendants on the charges.
According to the accusations, Sowore posted, “This criminal @ official PBAT Actually went to Brazil to state that there is no more corruption under his regime in Nigeria,” using his official X handle. That you have the gall to openly lie!
The alleged infringing post was made on August 25 within the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court and was allegedly in violation of Section 24(2)(b) of the Cybercrimes Prohibition and Prevention Act 2024.
