Strike: Appeal Court asks FG, ASUU to resolve dispute out-of-court
•Fixes today for motion to stay execution of NIC judgment

The division of the Abuja Court of Appeal yesterday called on the Federal Government and the striking members of the Association of Academic Staff of Universities, ASUU, to continue exploring ways toresolve disputes out of the court.
Consequently, the Court of Appeal, in a unanimous decision of the three-judge panel, adjourned theappeal hearing that ASUU had previously filed for another 24 hours.
He said the decision was to allow the warring parties to rethink and re-approach the negotiating table, in order to amicably resolve any difficult issues.
Justice Georgewill Biobele Abraham had after the matter was called up for hearing, implored FG’s lawyer, Mr. James Igwe, SAN, and counsel to ASUU, Mr. Femi Falana, SAN, to take a patriotic stand and convey the position of the court to their clients.
“There is time for everything. Time for war and time for peace. As ministers in the temple of justice, we want to see the two of you as senior lawyers to encourage and explore an amicable settlement of this dispute.
“In fact, we expect to return to this court on Thursday (today) with good news that the dispute has been thrashed out and all the appreciation of Nigerians will go to you.
“So, talk to your clients to take the interest of the nation into consideration for the sake of our children. As you leave here, go and sit down and talk and resolve the matter,” Justice Abraham added.

In response, FG attorney Igwe thanked the panel’s warning and promised to discuss the matterfurther with ASUU’s attorney.
For his part, Falana, SAN, says his clients have always been open to dialogue, adding that he hasbegun a similar approach.
However, Falana pointed out that an amicable resolution of the disputed issue would involve communication between the two parties.
Meanwhile, the panel chaired by Judge Barka Hamma Akawu said today it will hear ASUU’s requestto continue implementing the ruling of the National Labor Court, NIC, which ordered the termination.his current strike.
FG’s attorney, Igwe, argued that he did not receive a copy of the September 28 petition.
